EX-Z – the new, worldwide smallest photoelectric sensor series

September 15, 2015 New Product Introductions

Panasonic launches the worldwide smallest photoelectric sensor series, the EX-Z.

The newest development is a thru-beam type with a built-in amplifier and a slim design of only 3mm - of course including optics, electronics, indicator LEDs, transistor output and fixing holes. Thanks to the newly developed electronics and optics, the innovative sensors have a sensing range of up to 500mm. The small unit size allows the installation of sensors in a narrow space where only a conventional fibre sensor head could be installed before.

Sensors of the EX-Z series are able to detect objects with a diameter of as little as 0.3mm without using an optional slit mask. The high-brightness 4-element red LED provides a strong and stable light emission over a long period of time. In spite of the extremely small size, both front sensing and side sensing units can detect a small Ø1.0 mm object from a long distance of 500mm. Since the LED spotlight is clearly visible, it is easy to check whether the detection position is correct.

The Panasonic EX-Z series is available in a side sensing and a front sensing version. An inflection resistant cable type with improved flex resistance is available for all models. With IP67 degree of protection, the sensors can be installed in process lines where water is used or splashed. Optional accessories include a spacer for back mounting and three different mounting brackets.
